What is a credit? How much is it worth?
A credit is an approximation of a typical turn in conversation with Workshop, which includes both your message and Workshop’s response. The actual credit cost of each turn can vary above or below 1 credit, depending on the turn complexity and length.
Simple queries like “what’s the time?” cost only a fraction of a credit. Complex or long messages may cost multiple credits.
You can track your credit usage in the conversation screens and on the billing page in the app.
Credits used per turn increase as the conversation progresses because each new message builds on the previous ones. While Workshop employs techniques to minimize this effect, identical messages will generally cost more credits later in a conversation than at the start. We recommend starting a new conversation for each new topic or build you explore.
What are some strategies to manage my credit consumption?
Workshop has multiple features behind the scenes to minimize credit usage. On top of them, here are some best practices:
Efficient Conversation Management
- Start new conversations when context gets large
- Use Context Management to optimize AI memory
- Break large projects into focused conversations
- Commit progress regularly to maintain context
Strategic Feature Usage
- Use Long Context Mode for complex projects that truly need it
- Enable Thinking Mode for challenging problems — it tends to reduce overall credit consumption
- Leverage Plan Mode for efficient project scoping
- Use Custom Instructions to reduce repeated guidance
Project Structure
- Organize projects with clear, focused goals
- Use incremental development approaches
- Document decisions to reduce re-explanation
- Leverage version control for checkpoint management
Your code is never stored anywhere other than your machine.
If you enable “Privacy Mode”, your conversations are also never stored anywhere other than your machine. Otherwise, we may collect usage and telemetry data (including prompts, code snippets, or app activities) to help improve Workshop.
Are there any usage limits? What happens if I reach them?
The Discover plan (free) has a limited amount of credits per month (250 AI Credits).
The Build and Scale plans do not have a hard monthly limit. The monthly subscription includes credits (1,500 for Build, 5,000 for Scale), and you can purchase Credit Packs as needed.
What are Credit Packs?
If you run out of the credits included in any paid plan (Build or Scale), you can buy Credit Packs of different volumes. Larger packs offer bonus credits and longer rollover periods.
| Price | Build Plan Credits | Scale Plan Credits | Rollover |
|---|
| $25 | 2,500 | 2,750 (250 bonus) | 3 months |
| $100 | 11,000 (1,000 bonus) | 12,000 (2,000 bonus) | 6 months |
| $500 | 60,000 (10,000 bonus) | 65,000 (15,000 bonus) | 6 months |
Do credits roll over?
Discover plan credits do not roll over from month to month.
Build and Scale plan credits roll over with the following structure:
- Credits included in your subscription expire 3 months after they are acquired
- Credits purchased from a Pack expire 3 or 6 months after the subscription renewal following the Pack purchase date, depending on pack size
You can see more details on your credit usage and expiration dates on the Usage page in Workshop.
Example: If your subscription renews on June 10th and you buy a pack for 5,000 credits on June 25:
- The 1,500 credits included in the subscription plan would expire on September 10th (3 months)
- The 5,000 credits from the Pack expire October 10th (3 months after the July 10th renewal)
Can I upgrade or downgrade at any time?
You can upgrade from Discover to Build or Scale whenever you need more credits or features.
If you downgrade from Build or Scale to Discover, the change takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
Any unused credits by the time your subscription downgrades will expire. We recommend using them before this date.
What happens with my credits if I downgrade my plan?
When you cancel a subscription, you continue to have access to your credits and plan features until the end of your billing period.
Any unused credits expire when your subscription downgrades. If you are not sure you will be able to use your remaining credits in that time, we recommend waiting to cancel.
Can I downgrade from Scale directly to Build?
Currently, Scale plans cannot be downgraded directly to Build plans. You have two options:
- Two-step downgrade: Downgrade from Scale to Discover, then upgrade from Discover to Build
- Contact support: Reach out to help@workshop.ai and we will handle the direct Scale-to-Build downgrade manually
